NFL on the move: Flynn traded to Raiders, Palmer traded to Cardinals

The NFL offseason is in full swing and there are blockbuster trades and deals seemingly every week, while the Packers, like always, remain on the sidelines. For example, the Seattle Seahawks traded backup quarterback Matt Flynn to the Oakland Raiders. As a result, the Raiders traded quarterback Carson Palmer to the Arizona Cardinals and the Cards subsequently released would-be starting quarterback John Skelton.

Matt Flynn was slated to become the Seahawks' starting quarterback before the emergence of Russell Wilson.

As a Green Bay Packers fan, I’ve followed Flynn since he joined the Seahawks.

It was disappointing when the Seahawks started quarterback Russel Wilson over Flynn.

With Palmer now with the Cards, maybe Flynn will get the chance to start he deserves.

He was traded for a fifth-round draft pick in 2014 and a conditional draft pick in 2015.

Flynn will compete with quarterback Terrelle Pryor for the starting job in Oakland.

He started just two games – both with the Packers – in five seasons. However, in those two games he showed a spark you can’t see with backups.

He nearly beat the New England Patriots in his debut, replacing the injured quarterback Aaron Rodgers. A year later, he beat the Detroit Lions in a 45-41 shootout, breaking the Packers record for most touchdowns in a game previously set by Packers legend Brett Favre. He also nearly broke the NFL record. Flynn used that game to sign with the Seahawks but lost the starting job to Wilson.

Palmer’s trade makes sense. With Flynn now in a Raiders uniform, Palmer was expendable. Meanwhile, the Cards, having released quarterback Kevin Kolb, were desperate for a decent quarterback. Skelton wasn’t good enough.

The former Cincinnati Bengals quarterback was traded for 2013 draft picks and a conditional 2014 pick.

Furthermore, quarterback Drew Stanton signed with Arizona last month and was expected to start. With Palmer now on the team, it looks like Stanton is not longer being considered for the job.

Palmer went 4-12 last season, completing 61.1 percent of his passes for 4,018 yards, which is second on the all-time list for the Raiders, in 15 games. He also had 22 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

Still, there is one question I’d like answered. Wilson is a mobile quarterback. We all saw what happened to Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III during last season’s playoffs. What if Wilson gets injured and the Seahawks don’t have a decent backup to replace him?

Sure, Wilson could always use LifeWave patches (as RGIII should’ve when he was initially hurt during the season) but without Flynn the Seahawks may not do well without Wilson.

Foodball players use LifeWave patches, like IceWave, all the time and they’re great.

You should try it today!
